JDG retained to conduct CEO search for SPIE

JDG Associates, Executive Search Consultants, has been retained by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, to find a strategic and inspiring leader to serve as their Chief Executive Officer. Located in Bellingham, WA, SPIE is the premier global society advancing light-based research and technologies through conferences, publications, continuing education, and professional development. The Society represents more than 26,000 members, employs a staff of 177, and operates a robust network in 166 countries.

The CEO works collaboratively with the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, staff, and stakeholders to build on SPIE’s rich legacy and address the evolving trends in optics and photonics. In this highly visible, outward-facing role, the CEO will set the organization’s vision and strategy, serve as a global ambassador, and oversee a portfolio that includes world-class technical conferences and exhibitions, the SPIE Digital Library, 16 scholarly journals, and SPIE Press. Keys to success in this role include:

  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive senior-level leadership experience in an organization of comparable or larger size, complexity, and scope, with nonprofit professional society experience highly desirable.
  • Strong Board relations skills and a track record of leading the development and execution of a strategic plan, along with the business and financial acumen to identify growth opportunities and increase revenues.
  • Demonstrated international diplomacy and relationship-building skills, with an understanding and an appreciation for SPIE’s mix of academic and industry members.
