Doug Harnsberger selected as the new Historic Preservation Officer of the Architect of the Capitol
JDG and the AOC are pleased to announce the selection of Doug Harnsberger, RA, as their new Historic Preservation Officer. Doug is a licensed, practicing architect with over thirty-five years of professional experience with large-scale civic projects that involve the restoration, rehabilitation and expansion of historic buildings. He has extensive hands-on construction experience with 18th, 19th and early-20th century historic building materials and construction methods. He seeks to apply his knowledge of “best practices” in conservation methodology to achieve the highest quality restoration and rehabilitation work. When feasible, he is committed to following LEED sustainable design standards to achieve net zero energy consumption. Recent District of Columbia civic projects include the Main Hall barrel vault restoration at the D.C. Union Station, Senior Historical Architect with AECOM/Grunley Construction for the Phase 2 Modernization of the EEOB, and providing consulting services for a coffered ceiling reconstruction with Christman Construction for the Cannon House Office Building Modernization Project. Doug earned his Master of Architectural History from the University of Virginia.
