JDG completes Deputy Director, Office of Satellite and Product Operations search for NOAA

Scott Leonard brings over 30 years of space operations experience. He is known for applying innovative satellite ground initiatives using open architecture and enterprise solutions. His leadership style has included mentoring all the members of his diverse teams, which has instilled a level of humanity and community that can help people realize we are part of something beyond just the mission.

Scott was previously the technical director for the newly reimagined Office of Space Commerce and there he led the development of a new space system called the Traffic Coordination System for Space. TraCSS will serve as a modernized system to provide on-orbit collision warnings to the U.S. satellite community.

He was the mission operations manager for OSPO responsible for managing NOAA’s 24×7 environmental satellite operations, associated ground systems, product processing systems, and associated infrastructure.

Before joining NOAA, Scott worked for 24 years at the Department of Defense in several technical space operations leadership roles.
