JDG completes search for UVA’s Professor of Practice, Leadership and Public Policy
JDG is pleased to announce the selection of Melanie Egorin as a Professor of Practice in Public Policy at the University of Virginia’s Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. Most recently, she served as Assistant Secretary for Legislation at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In this role, she was the principal advisor to the HHS Secretary and the department’s chief liaison to Congress, working across the full spectrum of issues under HHS’s purview. During her tenure, she partnered with lawmakers to advance legislation that strengthened public health preparedness, expanded support for vulnerable communities, and reduced health care costs.
Earlier in her career, Melanie spent nearly a decade as a health and tax policy professional on the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means, where she focused on expanding coverage and improving patient protections. She began her work in health policy as an analyst at the Government Accountability Office. She earned a PhD in Medical Sociology from the University of California, San Francisco.
