JDG to commence Science and Research Director, Alaska Region for NOAA Fisheries
JDG Associates has been retained by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to identify candidates for the following critical Senior Executive Service (SES) position: Science and Research Director, Alaska Region (based in either Juneau, AL or Seattle, WA). NMFS is responsible for the stewardship of the Nation’s ocean resources and ecosystems by providing vital services to ensure productive and sustainable fisheries, the recovery and conservation of protected resources, and by using scientific, evidence based approaches for the management of healthy ecosystems. To support these efforts, NMFS conducts research to support fisheries, fishery development, trade, industry assistance activities, and the scientific and technical aspects of NOAA’s marine fisheries resource programs.
The Director is responsible for resource research programs located in four laboratories and facilities that are geographically dispersed in Washington and Alaska. S/he will direct the research organization through planning, programming, managing, administering, and evaluating comprehensive research and development studies conducted in the field of economics, fishery and wildlife biology, zoology, zoogeography, oceanography, chemistry, physical science, engineering, food science, fishery methods, and socio-cultural studies.
